rock bottom

coisas...

Here's another one of those offhanded 10-minute DFA dance tracks you don't ever want to end. It actualizes the cautious epiphany that comes with getting over someone; that moment a few days or weeks or months later when you wake up and feel a little lighter. "Since We Last Met" is the sound of just lying there and soaking it in for a while. Minimal producer Bruno Pronsato provides the pulse-- a handcrafted mix of simple synths, flitting flutes, and lackadaisical hand claps that wouldn't sound out of place on Four Tet's recent foray into Berlin-style hypnotism, There Is Love in You. Sergio Giorgini of D.C. electro duo Benoit & Sergio handles the half-asleep vocals as if he's thinking things through in real time.
The hook repeats like a looped future memory: "One day I'll see her on the street/ And we'll greet with casualness/ And discuss the flow beneath the bridges/ Since we last met/ And that'll be all." And when Giorgini groggily sings "and that'll be all" backed by Pronsato's humble warmth, it's not a lament as much as a relief. No more regrets. No more self-pity. No more wrenching what-ifs. The song draws out this moment of clarity with a build subtle enough to feel real. "Since We Last Met" marks the start of a promising relationship between Pronsato and Giorgini as NDF. It also shows how endings can be just as great as beginnings.
